Solutions for Family Offices’ Portfolio Operations Teams

Overview

WHIZDOM works with Family Offices’ Portfolio Operations Teams that offer ongoing hands-on support to the management teams of the B2B Companies in their portfolios.

WHIZDOM provides many benefits by providing their Portfolio Operations Teams with valuable information by conducting deep dive discussions with a Company’s Business Customers’ business leaders.

WHIZDOM works with:

  • Family Offices that have Portfolio Operations Teams; and
  • Family Offices who may not have Portfolio Operations Teams

In the latter case, WHIZDOM helps Family Offices develop ad hoc, virtual, Portfolio Operations Teams to better serve the needs of their B2B portfolio companies and improve their own bottom line.

Deliverable

WHIZDOM provides Family Offices with Business Customer Intelligence Reports that generally comprise:

  • Individual Business Customer Findings
  • Aggregate Business Customer Findings
  • Patterns and Trends Identification
  • WHIZDOM’s Analyses, Insights and Recommendations

Sample Scenario

Problem: A Single Family Office owns a minority ownership interest in a B2B Company in its portfolio and the CEO is seeking guidance on how to grow the company moving forward.

Solution: The leadership of the Family Office acts as its own Portfolio Operations Team and plans to meet with the CEO at a future meeting to discuss options.

To prepare for the above meeting the Family Office retains WHIZDOM to interview the Company’s Business Customer about how they use the Company’s products in their business operations and conduct research related to their future needs.

Result: Armed with the Business Customer Intelligence Report provided by WHIZDOM the Family Office’s Portfolio Operations Team recommends to the CEO that they focus on organic growth.

The Portfolio Operations Team learns from the discussions WHIZDOM had with the Company’s Business Customers that:

  1. If they improve certain features, functionality and capabilities of the Company’s products their Business Customers will buy more of them and/or renew subscriptions
  2. The consensus among the Business Customers is that price is not an issue and many of them have been a customer for at least eight years… They aren’t going anywhere
  3. While the Business Customers sometimes consider competitors offerings, the fact is many of the Business Customers have been using the Company’s products for so long they are, more or less, dependent on them. The Company’s products have become ingrained in their Customers’ business operations. Switching to another company’s products could require that the Customers invest significant time, effort and resources. Something that none of them were interested in doing.

Bottom Line: WHIZDOM’s Business Customer Intelligence Report detailed the priorities the Company’s Business Customers would like the Company to focus on offering in the near future.

And WHIZDOM also learned that some of the Company’s Business Customers were open to collaborating with the Company’s product development team so that they might have a say in the timeline of the rollout of future product improvements. Some Customers even offered to be guinea pigs and were willing to test new product features during their development.
